Documents and downloads
Documents ride along in a conversation the same way photos do, but they arrive as a card with the file name on it rather than a preview.
Send a document
The + button beside the composer opens a menu on the web and a panel of tiles on iOS and Android. The labels differ; the result is the same.
- Open the conversation and select +.
- Choose Upload Documents on the web, or the Document tile on iOS and Android.
- Pick one or more files.
- On the web, the preview opens — add a caption if you want one, then send. On iOS and Android the files go straight into the upload.
There is no restriction on file type: the picker accepts anything. What HushChat recognises it as only affects the badge and colour on the card.
What a document looks like in the conversation
Each document is a card carrying:
- The file name, on one line.
- A coloured icon with a short type badge —
PDF,DOCX,XLSX,CSV,PPTX,ZIP,TXT,JSONand so on. Anything unrecognised is badgedFILE. - A subtitle naming the type, for example PDF Document.
- A download button on the right.
Types are grouped by colour, so spreadsheets, presentations, archives, code and plain text are each recognisable at a glance without reading the badge.
Open or download a document
Select the card.

If the file cannot be reached you see File not available; if your device has nothing that can open it, Couldn't open this file.
Saving photos and videos to your device
Saving to the device gallery is an iOS and Android behaviour. On the web, use the download button.
Open a photo or video full screen and select the download button in the header. The first time, your device asks for permission — if you decline, HushChat tells you Permission Required and asks you to allow access to your photos. When the save finishes you get Saved to Gallery.
If you have already saved that file once, HushChat asks rather than duplicating it:
File Already Saved Do you want to save it to your gallery again?
Choose Save Again or Cancel.
While an upload is running
Uploads happen directly from your device to storage after HushChat authorises them, so they continue in the background while you keep using the conversation.
On the web, closing the tab mid-upload warns you that Uploads in progress. Changes may not be saved. Wait for the upload to finish before you close the window, or the attachment never lands.
Size and allowance
Two separate limits apply to a document.
- A maximum size per file. Oversized files are rejected before the upload starts — the file is named and skipped, and the rest of the batch still sends. The exact figure is set for your workspace; ask your workspace administrator if you need it.
- A monthly upload allowance. Everything you attach counts against it. When it is used up, the upload is refused with Monthly upload limit reached., together with how much of your allowance you have used. See Upload limits.
The allowance is checked before the upload begins, not after. A refused upload never leaves your device, so nothing is half-sent.
